Texas Instruments Project

The University of Arizona IEEE Branch has the unique and exciting opportunity to partner with Texas Instruments, one of the world’s leading semiconductor companies, to bring Wildcat students a real-world engineering experience on the U of A campus! IEEE is collaborating with Texas Instruments to sponsor a practical, hands-on project targeted at electrical, software, and computer engineering students who are seeking to apply the concepts they are learning in the classroom to solve real-world problems. This project is an excellent opportunity, regardless of school year or previous experience. Team members will have the opportunity to work and learn alongside their peers, as well as connect with professional engineers at Texas Instruments as they develop a real-world engineering solution!

The Problem: An undergraduate professor at the University of Arizona would like to use remote access and a data acquisition system to provide live demonstrations of basic circuits during classroom lectures. To do this, he requires a specially designed user interface as well as pre-fabricated circuits that can be controlled using digital signals.

The Solution: A team of electrical, computer, and software engineering students at the University of Arizona will develop a user interface in BenchVue, a proprietary software of Keysight Technologies. The team will also design and implement basic op-amp test circuits that can be controlled via the BenchVue user interface to enable live classroom demonstrations.

Engineering concepts and skills the students will encounter along the way include (but are not limited to):

  • Operational amplifiers in electronic circuits.
  • Searching and reading technical documentation.
  • The engineering design process.
  • Breadboarding.
  • Troubleshooting.
  • Soldering.
  • Preparing a professional engineering report and presenting before an audience.

The project will officially start September 21st, but don’t hesitate to join later!
